They called it SAFER — a housing program for people trapped in the cycle of jail, hospitals, and homelessness. For many of us, it was the first stable place we’d had in years. With support, therapy, and structure, we began to remember who we were. Not cases. Not statistics. People. Some of us started working again. Reuniting with family. Healing.
Then came the notice: two weeks to leave. No plan. No transition. Just go.
Now, we’re standing up — not just to survive, but to be seen.
Like the golden Buddha hidden under clay, we’ve always had value.
We just need a place where it’s safe to shine.
Classes
At SAFER, people learn how to balance money, manage emotions, keep appointments, and rebuild trust — with themselves and others. It’s not just housing. It’s self-discipline, accountability, and the slow return of dignity.
